The problem it solves
In most companies the performance review is broken in the same few ways. It happens once a year, so problems are caught far too late. It's one-way — the manager fills in a rating, the employee receives it, and there's no real place for the employee to score themselves, explain their side, or give feedback up the line.
The final number feels arbitrary because nobody can see how it was built or which goals it was measured against. And the goals set at the start of the period are often forgotten by review time, so people get judged on a moving target. The result is reviews that feel unfair, demotivate good people, and tell leadership very little they can act on.
What it does
ProfEx makes the review a quarterly, two-sided, goal-linked conversation in three moves.
- 01Set goals first. At the start of each quarter the manager sets the employee's goals as weightages across five performance areas — deciding up front what each area is worth.
- 02Both sides score. As the quarter closes, the employee fills in their self-review and the achievement against each area and writes their reflections (strengths, weaknesses, what they learned, feedback for their manager). The manager reviews the same areas, adds notes, and confirms. The two meet in the actual development conversation.
- 03One agreed scorecard. ProfEx combines each area into a single total. Because every area was set as a goal and scored as an achievement, the final number traces back to something concrete. The review is frozen only when both sides have sent — with a built-in request-to-reopen flow to unlock a frozen review for correction with approval.
- Five scored dimensions per employee: values (how well the person lives the company's core values), functional KPIs, business/cross-functional KPIs, project score (including on-time delivery), and an operational excellence score that can be pulled from a connected operations system.

How you use it
Your organisation is set up with its companies, departments, and users, and managers are mapped to their employees. At the start of a quarter, managers set goals; the quarter runs; at quarter-end both sides complete the review and the scorecard is frozen, updating reports and insights. Most people only ever touch two screens: their goals at the start, and their self-review at the end.
